Dr. Lewis' Announcement
October 19, 2005
Dear Lewis Associates Potential Advisees,
In 1998, Lewis Associates Medical Strategies was launched, extending quality
Pre-health Advising across the North American continent out of one of
the most successful pre-health advising programs at an American University.
With a website and new office, our Advising Program was born. We moved
to a larger facility in Mission Valley of San Diego in 2000 and upgraded
our website in 2001. Alice Rae-Flick was our Administrative Assistant
for over 2 years, and now we have Zakiya Khabir, whose very capable artistic
and computer skills support between 50 and 100 Advisees at any time.
Our track record speaks for itself with 100% acceptance of our entering
Classes of 2004 and 2005 applicants. This did not happen by chance. A
combination of effective personalized long-term advising with development
of personal strategies in a collaborative academic environment led to
these outcomes.
Pre-health advising although not my field of academic training, which
is marine invertebrate zoology where I did research and teaching for 10
years, became my passion, and I developed a love for my students and caring
about their futures. It is now time for me to move into a new focus. I
want to write a book or two about my students' successes and their difficult
times to inspire others, and to do some other things, as well. My older
daughter is married and my younger daughter has another 2 years to complete
college. My husband and I have bought land, and are building a home in
the central coast of California and plan to move there in early 2007,
as soon as it is completed. I will continue to work in my San Diego office
through sometime in fall 2006 or winter 2007, and will continue to support
all current Lewis Associates functions from there. After that, my office
will relocate to Templeton in the wine and olive-growing area of California.
I will continue to advise our application Class of 2007 through your acceptances
in fall 2007 and those preparing as 2008 and later applicants with long
term advising if you wish it. I will NOT be
taking any NEW long-term advising students AFTER December 31, 2005.
We cease our letter service after the Class of 2007, working with later
applicants to use a university letter service.
It is said that life is a journey, and my journey has been blessed by
knowing so many wonderful students whose personal and professional triumphs
I have shared. Lewis Associates is, indeed, an important part of my life.
This year through fall 2006, will not be different from the past. Beyond
that, I will focus on doing Personal Assessments, Essay Packages, Interview
Packages and hourly advising.
We are planning a gala Alumni Reunion for summer 2006 to include all my
advisees back to 1985. All current Advisees will also be invited.
It has been my intense pleasure to serve through advising students since
1985. I look forward to enjoying long friendships into the future with
all who are Alumni and friends. You are all welcome to our new home. In
a few years, we should be curing olives, making fig jam, heirloom tomato
salsa, and in 2111, our first red wine should be ready.
Sincerely,
Cynthia Lewis, Ph.D.
